Estonia Commits €10B to Defence Modernisation by 2029
The Estonian government has unveiled a €10B military modernisation plan (2024–2029) to strengthen national security and create opportunities for DefenceTech innovation.
The budget will cover:
New equipment & systems (37%)
Ammunition stockpiles (25%)
Air defence & HIMARS expansion
A €150M drone programme focused on detection, countermeasures, reconnaissance, and strike capabilities.
Estonia will establish a new Air Defence Brigade, double HIMARS units, and invest in world-class systems such as IRIS-T, Piorun, and Mistral. The country is also exploring ballistic missile defence and domestic cruise missile production.
For startups, this is a unique moment: Estonia is building a defence industrial park with fast-track processes and investment incentives, and domestic producers are already scaling — from drones to autonomous systems and affordable AD missiles.
